Alex’s Undiscovered Talent - thebeanieful (2/11/14)
Welcome to Undiscovered Talent, where I show you guys people who have caught my attention, but need to catch the attention of thousands of others. These people need to get noticed, and I am here to help!
Our very first undiscovered talent goes by the name of Kate, and she is just a jewel to behold! She plays guitar, sings, and currently has a YouTube channel and a SoundCloud. I will link you guys to both of her channels at the end of his post.
Yesterday, I asked Kate (who goes by “thebeanieful” on both her YouTube and SoundCloud) a variety of questions concerning many different aspects of herself. These are her responses.
Q. How long have you been playing music?
A. I started playing the guitar September 2012. I used to take piano lessons in sixth grade, but I quit. In December I taught myself how to play some piano chords.
Q. Who do you consider to be your musical idol?
A. I have a lot of musical idols. Some of them include Lorde, Ariana Grande, Billy Joel and I look up to bands like Coldplay, Boston, and one republic.
Q. What song would you pick to describe yourself?
A. AHH, I don’t really know honestly. Probably depends on my mood- I can be really happy and energetic but then again we all have those days :)
Q. Where do you see yourself in 20 years or so?
A. I do not know, but whatever it is I look forward to it. Sometimes I have visions of myself going from the east coast over to LA and pursuing my passion, maybe I’ll major in something music related. Above all, It would be awesome to have a larger youtube audience, if possible.
Q. If you could live in a different era in time for the rest of your life, which era would you choose?
A. Love this question. I would live in the 80’s for sure. Rock and pop music altogether at the same time in the same place? sign me up.
Q. Where do you most often find the inspiration for your songs?
A. Most of the time they come from personal experiences. If I’m particularly emotional one day about a subject i’ll write in my journal and then base a song after that later. Other times I write a song that reflects a certain scenario or situation that I have imagined or seen in media.
Q. Who, in your life, encourages you the most in the musical field?
A. My whole family actually doesn’t know that I write/post songs yet. I’ve been contemplating telling them, and I will eventually I’m just not ready yet. My friends and my subscribers motivate me the most. It helps a lot whenever I see an encouraging comment from a complete stranger- it just feels special to be recognized by someone you have never met :)
Q. Do you/have you done any other after school activities involving music (band, choir, etc.)
A. I’m currently in guitar, I used to be in chorus but I used to be really shy about singing so I switched over to an instrument. Youtube and soundcloud have definitely helped me overcome my fear in some aspects.
Q. I noticed you play both the guitar and the piano. Which do you prefer? (I am a piano player myself)
A. It depends on the mood of the song. Recently, I have been experimenting more with the piano but I’m sure I’ll create some more guitar based songs.
Q. What are some feelings you have when you listen to this song? (NOTE: I showed her a link to “Piano Man” by Billy Joel)
A. YAY BILLY JOEL! He is one of my favorites. That song is beautiful- very well composed and just amazing. He does such a fantastic job of conveying emotion in his lyrics without being ostentatious.
Q. What is your opinion on music today?
A. I guess it depends on the type. I feel like some of the story is being lost in pop music and it’s now all about money, drugs, and sex. Sure I love a catchy beat, but I also like feeling an emotion that will last and mean something. However, some pop artists do just this and they should be recognized. Sarah Bareilles and Lorde do a good job of this. I think alternative music is really cool- one of my favorite aspects of music today. It’s so unique and beautiful. I think M83 is a good example of this type.
Q. If you could have anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
A. A macbook pro. Oh the different ways I could use garageband… I could really use a laptop regardless.
Q. What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
A. I love to create music. Besides that, I’m obsessed with youtube personalities as well as playing a fair amount of League of legends with my friends. I also try to study when I can.
Q. What is your dream job?
A. AHH a full time youtuber :)
Q. Do you know of any other undiscovered talent that you wish to give a shout out to?
A. I haven’t had the opportunity to come across anyone at the moment
Becoming noticed is one of the hardest things for a talented musician. I started this section of posts on our blog because I want to give those people a chance to succeed. So let’s help Kate everybody! Share the following links to everyone you can! I would appreciate it very much, and I know Kate would too :). Keep up the good work Kate!
